Just a note to say what a fantastic day our football team had today on the high ropes (Sat 16th June.) The lads ( and dads), thoroughly enjoyed themselves and we would just like to say a big thank you again to you and your colleagues from all at L.S.S. Madrid (U13). Cheers Paula. it was the best day of my life and it was
absolutely brill!!!!! thnx john jo & simon!!! Just wanted to say thanks to Jon and Jo for a great time yesterday afternoon. There were 5 of us girls wanting some adventure and fun to celebrate Lindsay's hen do and it fitted the bill perfectly. We all enjoyed it immensely and I for one would definitely like to do it again even though I ache in places I never knew existed!! We had the best day ever, I have never known the group so involved and enthusiastic - EVER!!! I would highly recommend this as an activity day and we will definitely be back! Thanks again Katrina and all the residents of Market Rasen Foyer "We all had a brilliant morning thank you. A day to talk about and remember for a long time, thank you again" Kate. Hi Simon, Jon and Jo. I just wanted to
say thank you very much, on behalf of Mablethorpe
Guides, to you, Jon and Imraan for letting us use
your lovely campsite and for our great day on the ropes course. The girls
really enjoyed the week. "just a quick email to say thanks to both yourself and Mathew for a truly fantastic day out on Sunday! Everyone has been saying how much they enjoyed it and also that the buffet lunch was excellent. I will certainly be aiming to book again next year, maybe in the spring/early summer. You never know, I may even have plucked up the courage to do it myself by then! Please pass on my thanks to your colleague" Regards, Jayne. Thank you for an extremely enjoyable
stay and offering such wonderful experiences for both the staff and children.
Your approach to the children was great-supportive but encouraging. It has
enabled us to find out more about the children other than their academic
ability. Since coming home apart from catching up on my sleep I haven't
stopped talking about the experience and I am at present trying to convince my
friends to visit and try the high ropes for themselves. Thank you once again.
Naomi We had a great time at Linwood Warren with our Cubs and Scouts when we camped in October. The boys were the envy of their friends when the word got round their respective playgrounds that they had been swinging up in the trees! We can't wait to see what the new activities will be like! PISCES 'Hanging Around' LinwoodBy Kevin Coupland (AVL)First published in LINCS MACHINE Pisces Venture Scouts were once again out and about on Sunday July 9th. After a hectic week writing last minute Lincs machine articles and other such shenanigans 5 Ventures from Pisces, 2 Ventures from Market Rasen, three leaders and one scout (a guest) arrived at the programmed date for the 'High Ropes' activity at Linwood Warren, Near Market Rasen. The day started off in its usual high spirits as it absolutely chucked it down with rain all the way there. It was a real struggle to get them out of the warm, dry car and into the wet, cold woods! Having extricated the troops and made sure they were suitably attired for a day of clambering up in the treetops like deranged chimpanzees we all attended the briefing. The usual stuff covered, wear helmets at all times, look after your partner, make sure you're clipped into the safety rope properly, check your flies aren't undone etc, etc, etc. If you're not familiar with the high ropes course at Linwood Warren, let me explain. Basically, this activity entails being only slightly unhinged (which makes it well within the bounds of a Venture Scout's capabilities!). The course consists of a number of rope bridges, rope swings, tramlines and other challenging activities all set up in the trees. The first three are only about 10ft. off the ground to allow participants to get used to the mechanics of the safety systems and three different types of challenge. Of the Ventures at the activity all but two managed to make it all the way round the high ropes course, whose finale was a huge Aerial Runway which you have to complete the course to get to. However, those two have both said they would both go again and would then go on the high ropes course. I will hold them to that! We did take pity on them in the end and allowed them to make a short climb up the tree to do just the aerial runway. The leaders all completed the course (we had to set an example!) and young Scott (the guest) did extremely well to go down the aerial runway (even though he is scared of heights), get to the bottom absolutely terrified and then say, still shaking, that was great can I go up again?! There were a few other activities including the trapeze where you climb up a vertical log, stand on the end and jump to a trapeze suspended a few feet away. Sounds easy huh? Not so, as James found out when he nearly grabbed it as I was taking a photo, missed, stuck his legs in the air and offered up a great close-up shot of his backside. Thanks Chunk! Also on offer was Jacobs Ladder, which had teams of three working together to climb horizontal telegraph poles suspended at increasing intervals. That one was very difficult and neither team managed to get all three members onto the fourth rung. Despite the intermittent rain everyone involved had a great day, ACC Caroline had to be coaxed up onto the course, but once up there (or more precisely, finished), loved every minute of it. The same applied to the aerial runway but at least she did it, and with enthusiasm eventually. A great time was had by all. I'm sure all my Ventures would recommend it to you all. We're certainly going again! |
